as we transition ceidleigh into our lives, there is a small time period sans fotos. i'm not to unload the camera til the dust has settled between clarice & ceidleigh, so once that happens, i'll probably play catchup with posting some pics. ~bec.

steve got a few new fotos into clarice, so i was gonna post some tonite, but... i tried and here there's not enough room on the computer to even export them to the desktop! aye. but soon. he's been working on it. we're in the "making sure it works before we go beyond the point of no return" phase. ~bec.

our highly anticipated package arrived wednesday evening with daddy. however, since we were all getting ready to leave the house, we (i) decided we'd wait until thursday morning to do the opening. the children were more than ready by thursday morning. many thanks to D and her mommy for a wonderful swap! shelby & i took some much-needed time alone together today (during everyone else's naptime) to play the princess game we received. we had a lot of fun, and it was new to us to be able to use our imaginations while playing a board game. it was a big hit. included in our swap box was art supplies (tried them out right away), adorable handmade books (each with the children's inital on them), puzzles, a baby angela toy, tons of stickers (we love stickers!), an awesome cd, and more art supplies (hooray!). below are a couple pix of our box before we sent it of to washington state, and then some of us opening our surprises. you can check out the other end of our swap, too. here is D decorating our package, and here she is opening the one we sent. ~bec.

Unschooling, An Explanation I Appreciated

came across this on a blog...
"School learning is about cramming in skills and knowledge into kids that they might need one day. In the process they're so turned off by the method that it bleeds into and colors the skills *and* anything that uses the skills with a wash of boredom and dullness. Unschooling is about acquiring the skills *as a side effect* of exploring an interest. Kids don't decide to learn English because it's useful. They pick it up as a side effect of using it to get what interests them. That's how unschooling works for everything."

The Right To Change

since we got our first snow friday nite, i decided that i had an excuse to change our theme, here at the blog. it's a tad early, and i don't like to skip over thanksgiving to rush into Christmas, but in my pre-formed canned blog world, there was no decidedly autumn or thanksgiving themes. so enjoy the snow! ~bec.

i just walked myself through adding a list here on ye ol' blog. on the right, you can see a list of books i am currently "in." i may be reading straight thru, i may be browsing & skimming. the books may be mine (i prefer because then i can hilite) or they may be borrowed. i may love them, i may not. at any rate, right now i am "in" too many for my liking. i haven't been reading consistently like i would like. and i thought that perhaps having this little list would be a fun-for-melancholy-me way to give myself motivation to keep reading. see, odd as it is, it is some kind of fun for me delete a little book off that list, type in the isbn of a new interest, and watch that new little icon pop up! strange, yes. but i've come to appreciate my strangeness. ~bec.
